Doom 3 Giveaway for Amazon Prime Subscribers; Two Versions Available
Amazon Prime subscribers have received a surprise game. Or actually, surprise games, as they got to pick up the basic version of Doom 3 and its remaster, titled Doom 3: BFG Edition.
At the end of September list of games that were to be put into the hands of Amazon Prime subscribers in October has seen the light of day. As it turns out, Amazon also had a surprise for players, which turned out to be the game made available on October 19, Doom 3. And actually two versions of Doom 3, as the subscribers can expect both the original title and its remaster called Doom 3: BFG Edition. Subscribers have until November 18 (GOG key) to add the item in question to their account.
It is worth noting that Amazon Prime service costs $12 for a year's subscription. New users can test it for free for 30 days.
- The action of Doom 3 is set in a demon-controlled research center on Mars. During the game we play the role of a Marine, and our task is to close the portal through which the infernal beasts are breaking through. In addition, the BFG Edition has been enriched with the Resurrection of Evil expansion, as well as a brand new story campaign, titled The Lost Mission.
- Here we are dealing with an FPS maintained in the atmosphere of science fiction horror, in which we travel through locations bathed in darkness and perform tasks, eliminating hosts of enemies along the way. We dispatch the enemies by making use primarily of a wide range of futuristic firearms.
- Doom 3: BFG Edition stands out from the first version of the game due to its controls, which have been better adapted to the specifics of controller-based gameplay, as well as a revamped checkpoint system. Additionally, players no longer have to choose whether they prefer to hold a gun or a flashlight in their hands at any given moment - as the protagonist gained the ability to use tactical lighting attached to his suit.
- As the first version of the game, based on id Tech 4 technology, got old, working on its remaster, the devs focused on overhauling the graphics, which got, among other things, higher resolution textures.
Interestingly, on Metacritic, Doom 3 boasts a much higher average rating from industry media than its remaster. While the original enjoys an average score of 87-88/100 (depending on the platform), the score of the refreshed version falls between 59-81/100 (with an average of 81/100 belonging to the Nintendo Switch version). The blame for this state of affairs can be placed on the changes that have occurred in the industry over the more than eight years separating the two items, to which the developers have not been able to adapt the BFG edition.
