Nvidia Releases DLSS Plugin for Unreal Engine 4
Nvidia decided to make DLSS 2.0 technology available to a wider range of developers. The official plugin for Unreal Engine 4 is available for free.
- Nvidia has released a plugin to implement DLSS 2.0 in Unreal Engine;
- It requires no fees, which will enable for accelerated propagation of the technology.
Nvidia released, at no charge, a plugin that enables for easy implementation of the DLSS technology in Unreal Engine 4. This move will undoubtedly help accelerate the pace of popularization of the solution in PC games.
If you're wondering what this technology is all about and why Nvidia's move is so important, I hasten to explain that DLSS is a technology that scales an image from a lower resolution using an AI algorithm to improve its quality (AI recreates the details visible at higher resolutions). This allows for significant performance improvements without a noticeable difference in visible detail.
The first version of DLSS had limited functionality and required much more work on the developer's side than the 2.0 release, which uses a generalized AI training network. This not only allows for a wider implementation but also for much better image quality and performance.
The only drawback of the technology is that it is limited to GeForce card of RTX 2000 series and above. AMD also works on its solution using DirectML libraries - FidelityFX Super Resolution. According to rumors, a new version of drivers for Radeon cards with support for DLSS equivalent is expected to appear in the spring of this year.
