New Quests Coming to Disco Elysium in The Final Cut
During a recent conversation with journalists of one of the industry websites, one of the devs from ZA/UM presented the most important novelties that will appear in the extended edition of Disco Elysium - the so-called The Final Cut.
IN A NUTSHELL:
- Disco Elysium: The Final Cut will introduce four new side quests tied to ideological alignments;
- It will also receive full dubbing, audiovisual enhancements and controller support;
- The expanded edition will launch in March on PS4 and PS5 consoles;
- Current owners of the game will be able to download a free update.
Estonian studio ZA/UM - responsible for 2019's excellent RPG Disco Elysium - provided details on the game's expanded edition, subtitled The Final Cut (via Push Square). The biggest change will probably be four new quests, which will be tied to different political alignment It is worth noting that the whole content cannot be completed in one go, as the quests will be mutually exclusive.
"We’ve added a few new things for players to discover here and there, but the heart of the new material are these political vision quests. These are four mutually exclusive quests, one keyed to each of the game’s four major ideological alignments. (...) Some introduce you to new characters, some come with new items, others permanently change your UI or some other piece of the world," stated the developer.
The game will also receive full dubbing (previously only selected lines of some characters were dubbed). It's quite a challenge, given the size of the script.
"We actually have three VO directors working full-time with dozens of actors to get all one-million-plus words fully voiced," said ZA/UM's narrative designer Justin Keenan.
Another new feature will be extensive improvements to the audiovisuals:
"The art team has also added tons of nice new details to the world itself — new animations, new or improved character portraits, new sound and lighting effects," Keenan enumerates.
Along with the release of The Final Cut, Disco Elysium will launch on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles (it will happen in March this year, and a Nintendo Switch version will be released at a later date). So we can also expect improvements dedicated to these platforms - such as modifications to the interface and controller handling. It should be noted that PC players, who already have Disco Elysium, will receive all new features in a free update.
