Blizzard Fined for Lootboxes in Diablo, but the Amount is Absurd
PEGI has fined Activision Blizzard for the presence of lootboxes in Diablo Immortal. However, the amount is ridiculously low.
Activision Blizzard has been fined for lootboxes in Diablo Immortal. PEGI imposed a fine of €5,000 on the company for failing to inform the organization about the presence of paid reward crates in the game.
On the one hand, this is obviously a good decision. On the other hand, however, the amount that Activision Blizzard must pay seems ridiculously low - especially for such a huge company.
It is worth adding, the same fine was imposed on Plaion. The reason is also identical - failure to inform PEGI about the presence of lootboxes in Hunt: Showdown - Limited Bounty Hunter Edition, released in 2022 for PS4 and XOne (this version includes six DLCs). In this case, it seems significant that the base game - also offering bounty boxes - was released in 2019.
Therefore, it can be assumed that this is what the "fine" is for failing to comply with this particular requirement. Nevertheless, it seems to be a mere formality - it is doubtful that the information about lootboxes will affect the age rating granted to Diablo Immortal (16) or Hunt: Showdown - Limited Bounty Hunter Edition (18+).
