'Crucify Me, but Season 2 Looks Promising'; Diablo 4 Players Assess Announced Changes

Diablo fans have been waiting for the announcement of the changes that the second season will bring to the forth installment - some with hope, others with resignation. Now that we have learned the first details, we can check, how players rate Blizzard's plan to change - or fix - the game.

All the sins of Diablo 4

As a reminder, after the enthusiasm for the release of D4, gamers found plenty of reasons to complain. It wasn't even about various bugs (although let's agree - the trade exploits or the loss of a hardcore character due to server problems annoyed a lot), but the gameplay itself, specifically the ubiquitous grind and endgame, which was not very interesting, just like the rewards for most activities.

Yes, the situation improved somewhat after subsequent updates, but not all changes have been to the liking of the community focused around Diablo 4. Just recall how the launch of the 1st season of the game was received.

Cautiously, but with enthusiasm

Promptly, it's hardly surprising that some fans were not particularly looking forward to the new information. Nevertheless, so far, the players have received the announcement of changes to Season of Blood and update 1.20 with some enthusiasm. In part, this is a result of the behavior of the developers during the broadcast, which, according to some Internet users, seemed to confirm that the developer has finally begun to listen to the players (or, as some of the more malicious Internet users said, finally played its own game and finally wants it leave "beta").

Nevertheless, the list of changes also received praise from Internet users. Above all, they appreciated the large number of modifications that improve the experience of interacting with the game (so-called Quality of Life). Faster character progression, better rewards for activities and a more interesting endgame were exactly what the players were hoping for.

The same goes for minor changes, including those related to mounts, freeing up inventory space, and reducing the time spent waiting for events and bosses, traversing dungeons, etc. As a result, most fans said that the second season of Diablo IV looks promising, to say the least (even if the rest of the players were to "crucify" them for saying it; via Reddit).

Criticism still alive

Nevertheless, a sizable portion of the community is showing rather cautious enthusiasm. In part, this is due to the memory of past updates, which have featured some rather unfortunate changes (like patch 1.1.0).

Some fans are also still waiting for details on the balance of classes and the item system - especially the latter, because for some players, equipment and affixes are still the biggest issue in Diablo 4. Perhaps this will change in Season 2 - Blizzard is expected to discuss classes, unique items and damage resistance during its next "fireside chat" on October 10.

Such ambiguities aside, one can also find specific objections. Perhaps the most common concerns Season of Blood's content, which has amused some players. After all, Blizzard boasted about new monsters, then presented mainly... familiar mobs with different colors (via Reddit / Asmongold). There are also warmly received Bloodseekers, but the bad aftertaste remains.

Nevertheless, positive sentiment prevails in the Diablo community, even if this optimism is spiced with a fair dose of skepticism. The latter probably won't disappear even after the - hopefully - equally promising broadcast on classes and items. Only after the release of the update will we find out whether Blizzard has really listened to the players and whether the studio has succeeded in changing Diablo 4 according to their suggestions.

Season of Blood in Diablo 4 will begin on October 17, simultaneously with the game's debut on Steam.
