Diablo 3 - Screenshots From the Canceled Dark Version of the Game

Oscar Cuesta, artist who worked on the first version of Diablo 3, released new screenshots from the time when Blizzard North was working on the game.

Diablo III was released in 2012 and although it was developed by Blizzard Entertainment, we've known for a long time that at the beginning, between 2000 and 2005, Blizzard North worked on the original version of the game. That version was canceled and the game transferred to another branch of the studio, but it left some traces. We present screenshots from the canceled version of Diablo III.

The 20th season in Diablo 3 began on March 13.

Oscar Cuesta, a 2D and 3D artist who previously worked at Blizzard North and created graphics for the third installment of Diablo, published screenshots from the game when it was still being developed by Blizzard North. He also mentioned that the 3D model meshes were made up of few polygons at the time, and the colors used in the map were the base ones. Nevertheless, it is clear at first glance that the aesthetics adopted by Blizzard North's version were much darker than the completed title, which was eventually released.

More screenshots can be found on Oscar Cuesta's profile on Artstation.
