Destiny 2 Free-to-play Only in October
Bungie Software informed that the free version of Destiny 2 will be released with a few weeks' delay - on October 1, instead of September 17, this year. The slip will also include Shadowkeep, the next expansion which was to be released on the same day as the free-to-play release.
IN A NUTSHELL:
- free Destiny 2 will be released on October 1, not September 17;
- Delays will also affect the Shadowkeep expansion and the World First event for the new Garden of Salvation raid.
Bungie Software informed that the free version of Destiny 2 - dubbed as New Light - will not debut, as originally assumed, on September 17, this year. Fortunately, the delay is not big, because the new premiere date is October 1. The delay also concerns Shadowkeep, another expansion to the main game. The news was published in a post on Reddit.
We didn't make this decision lightly. We know for some of you (us too), Destiny releases are events where you take time off of work or develop a sudden sickness that keeps you from school or work (we get it, a bunch of our team takes some time off to go on their own Destiny Jacket Quest). We're sorry for screwing up your plans and we wanted to share this information as quickly as we could," we read.
The changes will also include a number of events that were to be held during the period in question. The World First Competition for Garden of Salvation will start on Saturday, October 5 (and last for the entire weekend) and the Moments of Triumph event will be extended by three weeks until September 17. In the same week we will also receive another edition of the Iron Banner PvP mode.
Devs also confirmed that the previously announced cross-save function (the ability to move characters between platforms) will be launched in the summer. It was not specified when exactly, but players should have time to make any changes before the release of the new add-on and the free version of the game.
Destiny 2 debuted on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 6, 2017. A little over 6 weeks later the PC edition was published.
