Despite Some Issues, Horizon Overshadowed Death Stranding on Steam
Last Friday, on the day of its PC launch, over 56 thousand people simultaneously played Horizon: Zero Dawn on Steam. This is much more than Death Stranding at its peak popularity.
Horizon: Zero Dawn made his PC debut last Friday and although the port is far from perfect, it has generated a lot of interest among gamers. After all, it's not every day that strictly exclusive titles appear on a different platform. A certain view on the scale of popularity of Guerrilla Games' work on PC may be given by the number of players on Steam. On the day of its release over 56.5 thousand people enjoyed Horizon: Zero Dawn on Valve's platform. Twitch audience exceeded 66,000 viewers (via Steam Database).
By comparison, we can look at Death Stranding, another game originally intended to be available exclusively on PlayStation 4, with 32,500 people playing on Steam at its peak popularity, 24,000 less than with Horizon: Zero Dawn. The youngest child of Hideo Kojima and his team won on Twitch, however. On the day of the title's release on PC, slightly more than 76 thousand fans of digital entertainment watched it.
Why such discrepancies? The most logical explanation is probably the fact that in many ways Horizon: Zero Dawn is a much more accessible position for the ordinary Joe than Death Stranding, which has earned itself the reputation of a strange game with a rather monotonous gameplay.
Of course Steam is not the only PC platform that offers both Horizon: Zero Dawn and Death Stranding. It is also available on Epic Games Store. So to get a full picture of the popularity of both of these titles on PCs, we would need accurate sales results from both of these sources.
The decent results achieved by Horizon: Zero Dawn and Death Stranding on Steam are good news. However, the question remains, can they give hope that in the future more exclusive PlayStation games will also appear on PC? This is not entirely out of the question, but recent reports do not look too optimistic for those who keep their fingers crossed.
