DayZ Breaks Popularity Record on Steam
DayZ has set a new activity record on Steam. This is all the more impressive considering that it's been eight years since the game's release.
- DayZ set a new activity record on Steam;
- This is due, among others, to the ongoing discount and a new update;
- The game has been gaining popularity for a long time;
- 90% of user ratings given in the last 30 days on Steam are positive.
Not much is being said about DayZ these days, but the game is actually experiencing a golden age. Bohemia Interactive's survival game has just set a new activity record on Steam.
Yesterday, at the hottest moment of the day, 46,081 Steam users played the title simultaneously. This managed to beat the previous record (45,878), set on December 24, last year.
Importantly, this is not due to any sudden reversal of trends. DayZ has been recording a slow, but systematic increase in popularity for several dozen months. The game does experience declines, but they are small and short-lived. This month, the average daily activity records were around 37 thousand players at the same time. In November 2020, it was 36 thousand, in November 2019. - 19 thousand, and in the same period of 2018 - only 10 thousand.
Currently DayZ is achieving results we haven't seen since the first months after its release in early access in November 2013. The game got off to a strong start, but the slow pace of changes discouraged many players. In 2018, daily records began to drop below 4,000 people. Eventually, the devs managed to reverse this trend, and across three years the game has been gradually regaining the sympathy of Steam users.
Setting a new record was helped by the autumn sale on Steam, within which DayZ was discounted by 40%. The latest update 1.15, which was released last week, was also warmly received. It introduced, among others, new firearms and enabled the players to wrap barbed wire around a baseball bat using crafting. In addition, the patch added a new playable female character and fixed many bugs.
All this must have been to the liking of players. On Steam, 90% of user ratings given in the last 30 days are praising DayZ, while counting the notes given since the release only 69% are positive.
