David Hasselhoff on Movie Reboot of Knight Rider
In an interview for Consequence of Sound, David Hasselhoff talked about the upcoming cinematic reboot of the iconic TV show Knight Rider, in which he played the lead role. The actor emphasized that the work is in good hands. However, he does not know much about how the movie will look like.
- David Hasselhoff spoke about the upcoming cinema reboot of Knight Rider.
- The actor has high hopes for this project, especially because of the writer - T.J. Fixman.
- He also pointed out that the creators of the reboot attach great importance to him supporting the project. However, whether this happens depends on whether they manage to convey the spirit of the original Knight Rider.
Reports of another attempt to resurrect the iconic 80s show Knight Rider, which was first shown on the American NBC station, have been circulating online for a long time. According to the latest plans, in the unspecified future a movie reboot of the show will appear on the cinema screens, prepared by Spyglass Media Group, James Wan (director of both installments of The Conjuring as well as the first Saw) and Michael Clear (who took part in the work on The Nun for example). David Hasselhoff, the star of the original Knight Rider, has recently spoken about it . He revealed that he had a good feeling about the project.
In an interview with a journalist from Consequence of Sound, Hasselhoff stressed that his hopes for the announced Knight Rider movie are mainly connected with the person responsible for the script, T.J. Fixman (responsible for dialogues in Ratchet and Clank games and their 2016 adaptation). To quote the actor:
“The details I can share are I have an emotional hand in it and I have a passion. The guy who’s writing it is a major Knight Rider fan. He sent me a picture of him in the Knight Rider car. His name is T.J. Fixman. The concept, I don’t really know. (...) They want to do a script that has my approval on it. Whether I’m in it or not, or whether I approve of it, the answer is: I don’t know."
Hasselhoff goes on to talk about why now is a good time to resurrect Knight Rider. Quote again:
“But I had the rights for about 10 years to Knight Rider, and I couldn’t get a bite. And these guys have it now because of the timing, because of the resurgence of nostalgia, because the guy who’s doing it gets it. It’s not about a talking car. It’s about the relationship between Michael and KITT. And it’s also about the action and ‘one man can make a difference.’ And if they do that, I’ll probably support it. If they don’t do that, they’ve hassled The Hoff.”
There's no denying that Hasselhoff has a point. Recently, we actually have a big wave of returns to nostalgic franchises that attract crowds of viewers again. An example of this is the popularity of Cobra Kai. The question is whether the movie reboot of the adventures of former police officer Michael Knight, who fights criminals behind the wheel of an ultra-modern car known as K.I.T.T., will be able to break out on this trend and provide entertainment at the right level? Let's hope so.
