Veterans Will Show How (Not) to Die in Dark Souls 2
The Dark Souls community has announced the return of the annual Return to Drangleic event to help new players get started with the series, specifically its second installment. Due to the release of Elden Ring the event will start earlier than usual.
Whether you've eaten your teeth on the Dark Souls series or haven't had a chance to check it out so far, January will be a great opportunity to get back to dying regularly or find out why so many people love it. That's because a community event called Return to Drangleic will take place again. During the even, the veterans of FromSoftware's series help new players take their first steps in Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin.
Those who have participated in this event in previous years may be surprised to learn that the next edition of Return to Drangleic will take place from January 16 to 30, which is over a month earlier than usual. This, of course, has to do with the release of Elden Ring, announced for February 25, which would overlap with this event if it were held on a "normal" date. And what is the event about?
The rules are simple - everyone creates new characters and starts the game from scratch so that everyone is at the same level (comparable equipment, etc.). This will enable veterans of the second installment to connect with newcomers through a network mode of co-op and - if necessary - come to their aid in the fight against more difficult bosses or in overcoming a problematic stage. To receive support, leave the following message by the campfire in Majula, the hub (the center) of the game: "Don't give up skeleton". Other players will be able to reply to it during your sessions.
If you're having trouble finding the right bonfire or creating a message, take a look at our guide:
You can take part in the event on every platform where the second Dark Souls is available - PC, PS3, PS4, PS5, X360, XOne and XSX|S. The community recommends owning the complete version of the game, i.e. Scholar of the First Sin. If you intend to join the game on PC, it is also advisable to install a mod called Blue Acolyte (download it here), which - apart from implementing many useful fixes and facilitations (e.g. not using disposable items necessary for establishing a connection with another person) - is a kind of protection against malicious players.
