Dark, Mature RPG is Republic Games Studio's Debut Project in Which „Lord of The Rings Meets 1984”
The lead writer of Detroit: Become Human has set up his own studio and is working on a dark RPG for mature audiences in cooperation with Krafton.
Adam Williams was the lead writer for Detroit: Become Human and the upcoming Star Wars Eclipse. He recently left the ranks of the Quantic Dream team and founded his own studio. The dev talked about his plans in an interview with Eurogamer.
- Williams worked at Quantic Dream for almost ten years. He admits that leaving the team working on a game set in the Star Wars universe wasn't an easy decision.
- The developer left the studio at the beginning of 2024. Soon after, he founded his own company - Republic Games.
- His new studio has already found an investor and publisher in the form of Korean concern Krafton, known for PUBG: Battlegrounds and The Callisto Protocol.
- Williams isn't yet ready to officially reveal the first game from Republic Games. However, he revealed a few specifics. We know it will be a dark fantasy RPG designed for mature audiences. The developer describes this project as follows:
Tolkien's Lord of the Rings meets Orwell's 1984.
The game will take us to a world ruled by a brutal regime that uses violence to enforce obedience to its own ideology. Rebels will attempt to overthrow the authorities by, among other methods, exposing the falsehoods underlying the doctrines of the ruling tyrants.
Adam Williams believes that there is a large group of RPG players who feel that their needs are no longer being met by the market. These people want a story that responds to their choices, giving them the freedom to go in any direction and evaluate events freely, rather than being told what to think about the plot and characters. The debut game from Republic Games is being developed specifically for such people.
