Cyberpunk 2077 With Disastrous Reviews on Consoles
Reviews of the console versions of Cyberpunk 2077 have finally begun to appear on the web. They are bad, to say the least.
The console editions of Cyberpunk 2077 turned out to be a disaster. So far, there have been almost exclusively reviews of the PC version available on the web, which, although not without flaws, presents a much higher level of refinement. Now, the reviews of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One editions have finally started to drop in bulk and the scores are very low. Our review of these releases will be published today.
At the time of writing this news, the PS4 edition has an average rating of 50% on Metacritic. For the XONE version the score is 51%. For comparison, the PC edition boasts a score of 89%, which is 2% lower than on the release date.
OpenCritic, which competes with Metacritic, does not give separate results for individual hardware platforms. Given the much poorer quality of console releases, the website has, for the first time in its history, placed a purchase warning on the game's profile. In its content we can read that the editors suspect that CD Projekt RED deliberately concealed the disastrous state of the PS4 and XONE versions by not making them available for review before release.
The console players themselves have no mercy. On Metacritic, the average user ratings are 3.0/10 for the PlayStation 4 release and 4.0/10 for the Xbox One release. These are higher than a few days ago (then it was 2.5/10 and 3.2/10 respectively), but still very low.
Yesterday, CD Projekt RED admitted its mistake and apologized for the awful quality of the console releases. The creators are currently working on several updates. The first one is scheduled to be released this week. Two more will be released in January and February. According to the devs, they are supposed to solve most of the problems on consoles.
The PC release is not perfect either, but it presents a much higher level of overall execution. On Steam, 79% of user ratings are positive, which is 8% higher than on the release date.
So far, console editions have only a handful of reviews and some of the websites that have published them have not reviewed the PC release. However, it is worth comparing the opinions of the two websites, which rated all versions. This comparison shows how big the gap between Cyberpunk 2077 PC and PS4 and XONE editions is.
