Cyberpunk 2077: Release of Multiplayer Mode Probably Not in 2021
Due to the delay in the release of Cyberpunk 2077 to September, this year, there will also be a delay in the development of the multiplayer mode. According to information provided during the CD Projekt RED's teleconference, CP2077's multiplayer mode is unlikely to be seen in 2021.
Due to the delay of Cyberpunk 2077's release, the multiplayer mode, which was supposed to launch only after the base version, is unlikely to appear in 2021. The information was provided by CD Projekt RED during a teleconference attended by, among others, board members.
"Multiplayer version of Cyberpunk 2077 is another AAA game we have planned. Taking into account that the release of the game [the single-player mode - editorial note] will take place in September, it seems unlikely that the multiplayer mode would launch in 2021", said Michal Nowakowski, CD Projekt's board member, "We are sure that the game will be released on September 17, though."
By the way, we were also informed that Cyberpunk 2077 and its multiplayer mode, treated as separate projects, are the only AAA projects currently handled by the Polish studio. According to the board member, the delayed release won't have a negatively impact on CP2077's market situation. There is also no concern about potential problems with distributors - CD Projekt has already talked to some of them, the rest will be contacted tomorrow.
"In our industry, there is always something going on, regardless of the season, it cannot be said that one month is easier [in terms of the number of competing releases]. We do not think that the September launch is more dangerous than the game's debut in April.
Several distributors, with whom we have talked since the publication of today's decision, support us. We'll probably talk to the rest of of them tomorrow. We do not expect any significant problems", said Nowakowski.
Interestingly, during the conference call, the board also confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will first appear on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. This is quite a clear suggestion (though not a direct confirmation) that in the long run we can also expect releases for next-gen platforms.
