Cyberpunk 2077 Triggers Seizures, But CDPR Will Fix It

One of the players who received a pre-release access to Cyberpunk 2077 wrote a text warning epileptics against selected scenes in the game that could trigger seizures.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  • Journalist Liana Rupper, who suffers from epilepsy, reported on the dangers of playing Cyberpunk 2077 for other epileptics;
  • Among other things, she drew attention to locations such as bars and club, which are a source of uncontrollable play of lights, as well as the highly controversial "braindance" system using flashing white and red;
  • CD Projekt Red responded to the case and ensured that it would take appropriate measures to help epileptic gamers.

Very strange and disturbing news comes from Game Informer, namely a text by Liana Ruppert in which the journalist warns about some scenes in Cyberpunk 2077. The message is addressed primarily to epileptics - the journalist in question suffers from this condition herself and claims that CD Projekt Red's game (to which she received pre-release access) may have a very negative impact on other persons as herself.

Ruppert admitted that during the game she had to face one seizure and was on the verge of one several times. The blame for this state of affairs is to be borne by the appearance of the game world, which is very futuristic, and therefore full of flashing neon signs. Particularly some bars and clubs can be very dangerous, as the discos that take place in them are connected with the direct exposure to shifting, intense lights.

Epileptics may, of course, try to minimize such interactions, but the problem arises when they are sometimes forced to do so. And this is done through one of the most important mechanics featured in Cyberpunk 2077, called "braindance", which enables us to reproduce the emotions and experiences of another person in order to carry out a mini investigation. When we prepare for this activity, sometimes we need to put on a special helmet, which boots with a flashing sequence of white and red lights.

Ruppert advises to close our eyes or turn our head away in such situations, but she also thinks that CD Projekt Red hasn't thought this configuration of colors and flashes through, as it is known to be often responsible for triggering seizures.

The developers of Cyberpunk 2077 responded to the comment very quickly. They assured that another warning message will be added in addition to the one included in the EULA, and informed that they will try to resolve the situation permanently as soon as possible.

And we would like to remind that the game will debut on Thursday, December 10 on PC, PS4, PS5, XONE and XSX/S. Then we will see for ourselves how invasive the lights used in Cyberpunk 2077 are.
