Crytek's Crysis Next Leaks Into the Web
The German studio Crytek is working on a new game. Its title is most probably Crysis Next. It's supposed to be a F2P battle royale shooter.
German studio Crytek has not had a good run for a long time. First, the launch of Crysis Remastered was delayed due to the bad reception of the trailer. Then, after the debut, it turned out that it has huge problems with optimization on both consoles and PCs. Not to mention the fact that since 2013 (when Crysis 3 was released) we didn't get any new Crysis games. The latest reports indicate, however, that this long dry spell may soon be over. Crysis Next, a free to play battle royale game, may have just appeared on the horizon.
In the job advertisement on Crytek's official website we can find information that the team is looking for people for the new, still unannounced AAA game. In addition, documents about various older projects of the German studio were leaked to the web, most likely due to a recent hacking attack on Ubisoft and Crytek. It's not entirely clear whether the titles were left unfinished, cancelled or are still under development. However, we know that one of them is to be the free to play battle royale game Crysis Next. From the documents that surfaced on the web, we can learn that Crysis Next bets on dynami action with hundreds of players at once. The distinguishing features of the game are to be customizable appearance (most probably some form of skins on weapons or costumes), adaptive powers of the nanosuit (known from previous games) and spectacular visuals in an engaging world.
If the project succeeds, we can surely expect a visually beautiful and mechanically decent game from a well-known studio. First of all, Crytek already has experience in free to play games thanks to Warface, which should pay off in the work on Crysis Next.
The idea of making the next part of the series look like Crysis Next shouldn't surprise us, because 8 years ago one of the developers revealed that the next part of the series will not be Crysis 4, but a free to play online game. Last year, there were reports that Crytek is creating a multiplayer AAA game with the help of the SpatialOS network platform - it sounds similar to the general idea of Crysis Next. More importantly, recently, a person claiming to be a former Crysis developer said that the studio is not creating any new single player games due to a lack of screenwriters, animators, etc. Therefore, it wouldn't come as a surprise that the game is a multiplayer title, focused on monetization through microtransactions.
It's not yet known when and on which platforms Crysis Next will be released, but everything seems to indicate that it will appear on next-gen consoles and PCs.
