Crypto Miners Discovered Using GeForce RTX 4090 Ti and Radeon RX 7000

RTX 4090 Ti and RX 7000 GPUs are expected to appear only in 2022, meanwhile, there are many indications that some crypto miners are already testing them. Are these real devices, however, or fakes?

IN A NUTSHELL:
  • GeForce RTX 4090 Ti and Radeon RX 7000 tested by cryptomining farms?
  • It looks more like a joke.

Both Nvidia and AMD are preparing new generations of GPUs. The first devices from the GeForce RTX 4000 and Radeon RX 7000 series are expected to arrive in the second half of 2022 at the earliest. Meanwhile, the website of the cyptomining group Flexpool posted some interesting data. Looking by the names in one of the farms, one could assume that crypto miners got their hands on RTX 4090 Ti and brand new Radeons before their official release.

"4090TI-Overclock-Test" and "RX7000-Overclock-Test" - such items appear on the list in one of the bigger farms. The whole thing produces 2.47 TH/s, and the layout comprising the alleged RTX 4090 Ti as much as 1.2 TH/s. To achieve such a performance, you would need almost 10 thousand GeForce RTX 3090 cards. If the miners really got the next-gen GPUs for testing, it would mean that their manufacturer favor cryptomining companies instead of gamers.

Very funny, indeed.... Source: WCCFtech

However, I think this is just a simple prank, kinda like naming a Wi-fi network "5G Full Power". Even if someone did get prototype chips for testing, certainly not in thousands of units. And that's how many cards would be needed to achieve such hashrate. Additionally, there's a typo in Nvidia's GPU name - the "i" in "Ti" should be lowercase, because it's not an acronym. It seems that miners do not lack a sense of humor and are pulling the gamers' leg.

Hashrate is a general measure of the processing power of a cryptocurrency network and mining rigs. During mining, blocks of verified transactions must be "hashed" before being added to the ever-growing blockchain. Mining hashrate is also a key indicator of security. The more computing power a network has, the greater its security and overall resilience to attacks. Depending on the performance of mining rigs or entire farms, we can talk about values on the order of mega- and giga-, e.g. the RTX 3060 card has a performance of 47 MH/s and the RTX 3090 - 125 MH/s.
