Cringy Santa Claus Coming to Battlefield 2042 [UPDATED]

Battlefield 2042 will soon receive Christmas skins, including one that enables you to dress up as Santa Claus. Reactions to the new feature have been mostly negative.

Update

DICE has announced that it doesn't intend to use all prepared skins in the near future. So most likely, the controversial Holiday skins will not be activated in the game.

It has also been suggested that these items were made for special events in Portal mode and there were no plans to introduce them in the other gameplay variants.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. BF2042 will receive Christmas skins;
  2. Many players don't like them because they don't fit with the atmosphere of the game;
  3. The skins were presented to the community during consultations in March, where they were negatively received, and yet DICE will add them to the game.

Battlefield 2042 continues to infuriate players. The latest reason for fans' annoyance is the reveal of Christmas skins that enable us to dress up our characters in outfits reminiscent of Santa Claus or Grandfather Frost. The skins have been added in the new patch but they are not active yet and their appearance was revealed prematurely. On the same occastion we learned that the first season will not launch until eight weeks after the game's release.

Fans reacted badly to the upcoming cosmetic items. Among other things, the new skins will enable us to decorate our tank and helicopter with drawings of reindeer. However, the most negative emotions are sparked by the "Father Winter" outfit, available for Pyotr Boris Guskovsky, one of the specialists in the game.

Reactions to the skins are generally bad. Some players are comparing them to skins from Fortnite. There is no shortage of opinions that such elements spoil the realistic atmosphere typical of the Battlefield series. Others are upset that DICE is working on cosmetic items rather than fixing the game. Such elements are nothing new to the series - for example, BF4 featured snowball fights - but as some veterans have pointed out, these were optional gameplay modes, and here we'll see these decorations in the main game modes.

Other fans argue that this is just Christmas fun and the negative reactions are greatly exaggerated. There's some truth to that. Many players may be venting their anger at the game's poor overall quality. Had Battlefield 2042 not been such a disappointment, these skins probably wouldn't have caused such controversy.

Far worse is DICE's disregard for community feedback, as reported by Tom Henderson. This March, they were presented with a number of other potential game elements. Among them were these skins and virtually everyone expressed a negative opinion about them, and yet they will end up in BF2042. During the same session, other costumes were also shown, including a clown and a knight, so they will probably also be added to the game in the future

The game launched on November 19, simultaneously on PC (both on Steam and Origin) as well as PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. Those who purchased the Gold or Ultimate edition can start playing a week earlier.
