Content Warning - Can't Watch Videos on TV Issue Explained
If you experience problems with watching videos on in-game TV in Content Warning, we have gathered some information regarding that.
There are games that take everyone by surprise. A mix of horror a ‘la Lethal Company and a parody of YouTuber shook Steam unexpectedly when it arrived on the platform on April Fool’s day. Part of Content Warning’s success was it’s unusual promotion that allowed everyone to grab it for free on the launch day. As the popularity grew, many people stumbled upon some issues, like for example pink screen (of death) or inability to pick up items. There’s yet another one that plagues numerous fans. Many of them report that they can’t watch videos on the in-game TV screen. Let’s see in more detail what is going on with that.
Inability to watch videos on TV screen in Content Warning explained
Content Warning got traction by being a successful alternative for Lethal Company, yet dressed in parody suit of YouTubers’ adventures with shaky camera that resemble slightly B-class horror movies. The whole spin of this title lies in getting SpookTube (CW’s version of YouTube) fame, so obviously, there is an in-game TV that lets you watch videos. Well, it should, but some players have problems with that. What gives?
The quick answer is – no one knows. In some Steam threads, one of the developers suggested an issue with Window’s version, yet in case of many fans the update to the latest one did not work and the problem still persists. Affected players can see only colour changes and some text of the movie and that’s it.
As the problem becomes more widespread and the workaround proposed by the creators is not very helpful, players have tried to fix it on their own, yet with mixed results. There is a fan who claim that they had changed location of windows’ temp folder and reverting it back to “%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp” did help, yet others stated that it did not work in their case. Of course, there were people updating the graphics drivers, as it seemed the most logical way out, yet it was also for naught. The only thing left is to wait for official patches that will improve the situation. The developers have promised to look into this issue.
Despite the problems that the game has on launch, many wonder if Content Warning will make its way to consoles so they can enjoy it with their friends using other platforms than PC. That will definitely help those who tried to play the game alone in offline mode to find comrades. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for this production and wait for further patches.
