Commandos: Origins Officially Announced
The legendary strategy game series Commandos is back. Claymore Game Studios, together with publishers Kalypso Media, have released a trailer for Commandos: Origins.
Many fans of tactical strategies set during World War II have certainly been waiting for this moment. Claymore Game Studios, together with publisher Kalypso Media, have officially announced a new installment of the iconic Commandos.
Commandos: Origins - because that's the game's title - will debut next year on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Interestingly, from the day of release, the game will also be available in Game Pass.
By the way, the developers have released a trailer including gameplay footage. You can watch it below.
The publisher informed that an "immersive storyline" and more than 10 missions in authentic locations around the world will await the players - from the icy landscapes of the Arctic to the scorching sands of the African desert.
On the way to the coveted victory, players will have to demonstrate their cunning and strategic skills. Extremely important will be the appropriate use of the diverse environment, which will be traversed on foot (by crawling, climbing and sneaking) or using various types of vehicles.
In addition, Commandos: Origins will offer the possibility to play in co-op for two players (online or split-screen).. Below you can see some screenshots showing the game in action.
A brief trip back in time
That the long-standing series will live to see another game, was rumored already in 2021. The source of the reports at the time was the website of the German Ministry of Transport, Construction and Urban Development, which would support the development of the said Commandos: Origins with a sum of €1.5 million. Unfortunately, months passed, and due to the lack of any information about the project, the community began to doubt that it would come to fruition at all.
However, it seems that Claymore preferred not to hype up the community to much and thus develop its latest creation in peace.
Recall that the story of the Commandos series dates back to 1998, when, thanks to Spanish team at Pyro Studios, PC saw the release of Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines. The tactical real-time strategy set in the realities of World War II gained such popularity that it lived to see several more installments. The last full-fledged title - if a shooter can be considered as such - was Commandos: Strike Force, which appeared on the market in 2006.
