Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion is an anime that probably needs no introduction to fans of the genre. The show earned recognition, and even cult status, establishing itself as a brilliantly written story with a charismatic main character.

The series debuted in 2006 and since then has had several spin-offs, including Code Geass: Renya of Darkness and Code Geass: Akito the Exiled. Another one appeared this year, Code Geass: Roze of the Recapture. The first episode of the new anime appeared on Disney+ on June 21 and we can expect more in the following weeks, also on Fridays. The series is available with Japanese, English, Spanish, and Portuguese dubbing.

What is Code Geass: Roze of the Recapture about?

The action of Roze of the Recapture takes place 5 years after the 2019 film Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection, which is a continuation of the new timeline created by the 3 previous CG films, which retold the story of Lelouch's rebellion, changing a few details. In the new anime, Japan is in danger again, as it has been conquered by the New British Empire. The Roze and Ash brothers resist, acting as the Nameless Mercenaries, while the hundredth emperor Callis al-Britannia, who stopped the Black Knights' revolution, wants to plunge the world into chaos again.

What do fans think about Code Geass: Roze of the Recapture?

Code Geass fans are currently pleasantly surprised by Rose of the Recapture after the premiere of the first episode and even refer to this series as a "worthy successor" to Lelouch's story. The first episode indeed laid a solid foundation for an intriguing story, which may play a bit on the nostalgia of the series' fans, but also stands on its own.

Below you can read some opinions of Code Geass fans.

Code Geass: Roze of the Recapture's first episode just premiered and it's a worthy successor to the franchise's alternative future prospects Shocking plot twists, mystery, and mecha action gloriously captured on the screen gives original fans so much to register. CLAMP designs are always good to see and I'm looking forward to seeing how this new addition gels with my expectations of the series. So far, it has a good head on its shoulders. Certainly didn't expect those final minutes -- Baleygr086.

Started Code Geass: Roze of the Recapture. That was freaking awesome. I'm not even over-inflating how great that first episode was for me. Super impactful start with great mystery, action animation, sound design, and main characters. I'm locked in -- Sayngelic.

Episode 1 of Code Geass: Roze of the Recapture looks good and the Knightmares fights are still amazing to see -- bestmangapost.

I got to watch the first episode of Code Geass Roze of the Recapture and I thought it was pretty neat. It is funny that Japan once again gets occupied. I wanna see how this pans out -- ray_ry0.

I liked Roze of the Recapture 01. Does it feel like a remix of the very start of Code Geass? In a way, yet: a) I don't hate that. b) I'm also more interested in what's new about it, which should become clearer after a couple of weeks -- yellowredfield.

Some fans rightly point out that Roze of the Recapture repeats the theme of occupied Japan from Lelouch of the Rebellion. This could raise some concern about whether it will just be a copy of the previous story, but for now, we have only completed the first episode and it's worth giving this anime a chance, as it has the potential to take a different direction.

Will Lelouch appear in Code Geass: Roze of the Recapture?

Warning! The following contains spoilers from Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection and Code Geass: Roze of the Recapture.

In Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection, Lelouch is shown to be alive. Does this mean we will see Lelouch here, given that the new anime's action takes place only 5 years after the events of that movie? There is such a chance, although nothing indicates it at the moment. So far, Lelouch has only been shown when the story of the British Empire was brought up, but that's all. Apart from him, Schneizel, one of the old and known characters, also appeared for a moment on the same occasion. However, since the action takes place in Japan, it can be assumed that some of the characters from Lelouch of the Rebellion will appear in this Code Geass series. One of the trailers already revealed Cornelia's return.

It's also worth mentioning that in Japan, Code Geass: Roze of the Recapture was released in cinemas as movies. The 12-episode series was divided into 4 cinematic productions, 2 of which have already premiered in cinemas. Fans from Japan are therefore familiar with some of the events and according to their reports, Lelouch is set to appear in the new anime.
