CoD: Modern Warfare - Players Annoyed by Game's Increasing Size
Size of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is constantly growing. Space taken up by Infinity Ward's title on PC has exceeded 180 GB, and on consoles the game already needs over 185 GB. Some players don't quite like it.
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare currently takes up over 180 GB on PC and over 185 GB on consoles.
- Subsequent big updates only increase the size of the game, which is beginning to worry many players, especially those with 500 GB drives.
In early October last year, we learned that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will require 175 GB of free disk space. This caused quite a sensation at the time. Infinity Ward explained that such a monstrous size is reserved for future updates and new content. The problem is that the latest major installment of the iconic FPS series has already exceeded this size. Currently it takes over 180 GB on PC and over 185 GB on consoles (via GameSpot).
Modern Warfare reached a record size last week with new patches. On PCs, they were compiled into one package, taking up 32 GB, and on consoles, they were divided into two parts, one of which required 12 GB of data to be downloaded, and the other, irrelevant for people playing only the free Warzone, 18 GB. That's a lot, but fortunately not as much as the February update initiating the second season in Modern Warfare. Almost 100 GB of data had to be downloaded to the PC at the time, for which Paul Haile, production's director at Infinity Ward studio, apologized on Twitter (again via GameSpot).
However, any apology does not change the fact that the growing size of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is becoming more and more worrying for many players. For example, owners of consoles with 500 GB disks complain, and for good reason. In their case, Infinity Ward's game already takes up nearly 40% of their HDD space. On top of that, subsequent updates to the title often require much more space than they actually take, so in order to download them, some people must first remove some of their games or applications and then reinstall them if they still want to use them.
At this point the question arises, will there be an end to this? Modern Warfare is still being developed, so how much will the game take up when the support ends? This we do not know. So far, however, we can risk saying that exceeding the 200 GB barrier seems very likely.
