Timberborn Received „Colossal” Patch. Update 6 Heralds Price Increase
A new update significantly improves city builder Timberborn. Mechanistry has also announced an increase in the game's price but has prepared a special sale in advance.
The game Timberborn has been enhanced with a huge update. Update 6, titled Wonders of Water, is now available for download on Steam. It is accompanied by another entry from the creators and a fresh trailer for this city builder.
As the title of the update suggests, the most important new feature is the change in water physics – now generated in 3D. In practice, this means not only a better, more "fluid" appearance and behavior of water but also the possibility of using its falls and differences in height and layers in practice, for example by using aqueducts. Or, as the trailer shows, you can also try to build an "underwater" city with the help of a new "building": a watertight floor.
Wonders, mods and new beginnings
Another feature related to this novelty are automatic locks, which the players have been demanding for a long time, but only now could they be added to Timberborn. There are also new platforms and structures, and above all a completely new element: wonders.
These structures are exceptionally advanced buildings, sometimes requiring the construction to be divided into 5 stages, and their "activation" is somewhat the culmination of the game (although those willing to continue playing will be able to continue the game on the same map).
While activating a wonder itself is rather symbolic (apart from increasing the happiness of a large number of beavers), building one will enable you to change your starting location in subsequent sessions on a given map. If this variety is not enough, Timberborn finally received mod and Steam Workshop support. By the way, the entire modding system has been slightly redesigned to make it easier for fans to make their own creations.
Beavers at a (higher) price
All of this is complemented by smaller updates and improvements - from the option to personalize beaver tails, through building improvements (including visual) and the addition of construction guidelines view, as well as map, animation and performance updates, to various bug fixes. You can find the full and very long list of changes in the announcement published by the creators on Steam. Oh, and they also started a fundraiser to create plush beavers.
The worse news for players is the price increase of Timberborne. From October 24, the game will cost $34.99 (currently $24.99).
As a consolation, from today until that day, there is a sale on the game. It's not a historically low price, but $19.99 is still a significant discount, especially compared to the new pricing.
Nonetheless, some players are a bit concerned: usually, such price increases accompany the end of early access. Yes, according to many people, Timberborn is already doing at least as good as many "finished" productions, but fans are worried whether this is really the last price increase, or whether the devs at Mechanistry will do it again with the release of version 1.0.
Date of Timberborn's departure from Steam's Early Access remains unknown.
