Cities: Skylines 2 Devs Want to Speed Up Patching
Cities: Skylines 2 will soon receive another update that will improve the game's technical condition. The developers revealed what they are currently working on and what they are prioritizing.
The sequel to the popular city-builder from Colossal Order did not have a good launch. According to many fans, the game was released too soon, as its optimization leaves much to be desired. However, the developers are not indifferent to thousands of negative reviews and reports from players about the technical condition of Cities: Skylines II, which is why they want to patch the game as soon as possible.
Upcoming patches
Today the CEO of Colossal Order, Mariina Hallikainen, published a post containing information on improvements to the game's technical condition. The message summarizes the first patch that went to Cities: Skylines II last week on Steam - it is now also available to players who have the game in Microsoft Store and in PC Game Pass.
As part of it, the Level of Detail has been changed, so that the game now renders less detailed objects when the camera is far away from them. The post stresses that the developers will continue to improve this aspect, as well as the related passers-by and their teeth. The problem of meaningless rendering of full character models regardless of camera distance was noticed by some time ago by fans of the game.
Hotflix also eliminated other issues affecting optimization (including those related to fog) and several bugs causing the game to crash.
Another patch will be released soon to improve performance of Cities: Skylines II. As we mentioned above, the developers are still working on correcting detail rendering. In addition, they have plans to:
- fix a bug with the display of information in the interface on college eligibility;
- eliminate the problem with the abandonment of dogs by city residents;
- make fixes for trash and commerce.
Optimizing the game is a priority for the developers
As Colossal Order's CEO emphasizes:
"We will have to see how we can speed up the patching process [of the game - ed. note] so that players don't have to wait longer than necessary for these important fixes. (...) Improving performance and eliminating bugs are the most important things at the moment - until we reach a level that satisfies us [the developers - ed.]"
The developers are apparently very serious about patching Cities: Skylines II, with which they probably want to satisfy those who have already bought the game, as well as attract new players. It was not revealed when exactly the next update will appear, however, today's post resumed the Word of the Week series (previously it was about the first game), so news on upcoming patches should be expected next week. However, a patch focusing on the aforementioned aspects may be released earlier.
The developers declare that they are looking at all the bugs reported by players. Problems encountered in Cities: Skylines II can be reported on the game's forum.
It is worth mentioning that the improvements being made to the PC version of the game are expected to positively influence the work on the technical condition of the title on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. So, if the developers are to be believed, the optimization of Cities: Skylines II on consoles on debut day will be significantly better than when the game is released on PC.
On PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, Colossal Order's game is expected to be released in Spring 2024. We do not know the exact relase date, but the developers "hope it will be as soon as possible."
Premiere of Cities: Skylines II on PC came on October 24. The game attracted tons of people on Steam, although of the nearly 20,000 reviews there, only 56% are positive.
