Cities: Skylines 2 Devs Have Bad News for Console Users
Console owners will have to wait until next year for Cities: Skylines 2. Paradox Interactive announced today the postponement of the game's release on PS5 and XSX/S.
Although the release of Cities: Skylines 2 is less than a month away, it unexpectedly turned out that on October 24 the game will come only to PCs. Paradox Interactive announced today that PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game will not be released until spring 2024.
The developers explain the delay by wanting to deliver the best possible console versions, which still need time to iron out all the details.
What about Cities: Skylines 2 for consoles?
Along with the announcement, the developers also published a FAQ, in which they answer all the questions that have been bothering the players. Thanks to it we learned that:
- the PC release is unthreatened, the game is scheduled for release on October 24 on Steam and Microsoft Store,
- people who pre-ordered the console versions will receive a refund. It will take place automatically, players will not have to fill out any return forms,
- preorders for consoles will be available again when the exact release date is announced,
In addition, the developers have revealed new system requirements for Cities: Skylines 2 for PC.
Cities: Skylines 2 - new minimum PC requirements
- Processor: Intel Core i7-6700K / AMD Ryzen 5 2600X
- RAM: 8 GB
- Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 (4 GB) or AMD equivalent.
- Operating System: Windows 10 64-bit
Cities Skylines 2 - new recommended PC requirements
- Processor: Intel Core i5-12600K / AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
- RAM: 16 GB
- Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 (10 GB) or AMD equivalent.
- Operating system: Windows 10 / Windows 11 64-bit
This is how the developers explain the increase in requirements on PC:
"Cities: Skylines II is a next-generation title, and therefore has certain requirements. The recommended specifications were set when the game was still in development. After extensive testing on various devices, we decided to update the minimum/recommended configurations, to provide players with a better experience."
It turns out that the work on the sequel to the popular city builder caused the developers a bit more trouble than they thought. PC owners will soon be able to taste the fruits of these efforts. Console gamers must be patient.
