Chris Metzen, One of Warcraft's Fathers, Returns to Blizzard
One of the fathers of Warcraft, Chris Metzen, has returned to Blizzard after a six-year absence as a creative advisor to help with WoW.
In September 2016 Chris Metzen left Blizzard Entertainment after many years of service; he was one of the people who, at the dawn of Blizzard, shaped Blizzard's Diablo, Warcraft, as well as StarCraft series. Today on the Twitter profile of the general manager of the second of these brands, John Hight, there was information about Metzen's return to work on World of Warcraft.
It is quite an interesting return, because Metzen left Blizzard at his own request after 22 years of work.. He admitted at the time that it was not due to a jump to other jobs, but rather a desire to retire early. Apparently, peace and quiet with his family was not what he was really looking for, because not long afterwards he announced that he would be working on board games.
Chris Metzen is also known for providing the voice for many characters created by Blizzard, such as Thrall (Warcraft) or Bastion (Overwatch). His announced return, however, is primarily about creating content for games.
It is worth mentioning that Metzen, along with another former Blizzard employee, Ryan Collins, is the author of the pen&paper RPG based on Dungeons & Dragons, called Auroboros: Coils of the Serpent. The project has seen several releases after a successful campaign on Kickstarter.
