Phil Spencer Adamant About Call of Duty's Presence on Steam and Switch
Will Microsoft's acquisition of the Call of Duty brand have a significant impact on the PC market? Phil Spencer has a strong opinion on the subject. What's more, the brand is set to return to Nintendo consoles for the first time in 10 years.
Microsoft continues to reassure gamers and market regulators. This time Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft Gaming and the Xbox brand, spoke on the matter. He did not mince words, referring, among other things, to the presence of Call of Duty on Steam.
Call of Duty will remain on Steam
We described the details of Microsoft's 10-year warranty against Sony yesterday. Several hours ago, new light on the availability of upcoming installments of the Call of Duty series on PC was shed by Phil Spencer in a post on Twitter.
The above promise is of considerable importance. After all, acquiring the rights to the Call of Duty brand could involve moving its various installments exclusively to Microsoft Store. The announcement, however, has generated mixed enthusiasm. Many gamers have for years accused Activision of overpricing CoD games on Steam, especially older installments, which can cost full retail price even more than 10 years after their release. It's hard to say whether the new owner of the brand will change anything in this regard.
CoD will return to Nintendo consoles
The surprises don't end there. Phil Spencer added on Twitter that the company is committed to introducing Call of Duty to Nintendo consoles.
The statement lacks details about a specific platform, which could mean that Spencer had both Nintendo Switch and future Japanese consoles in mind. It is worth recalling that this will not be the first attempt to conquer Nintendo consoles by CoD - after all, on Wii U had Black Ops II and Ghosts. However, these ports did not win the hearts of Nintendo players, so the brand stopped coming out on the Japanese manufacturer's consoles since 2013.
