Bug in Facebook App Switched on the Camera Without User's Knowledge
In one of the latest versions of the Facebook app for iOS, there was a bug, which in some cases resulted in the camera starting automatically. There is no evidence that the program was recording or taking pictures of something. The error was fixed in yesterday's update.
In the recent version of Facebook app dedicated to devices based on iOS, there was a disturbing bug that resulted in the smartphone camera automatically turning on when browsing the so-called "wall". The first news appeared on the web on November 2, in the NEO QA post on Twitter. The entry also includes a short video that illustrates the action of the problematic bug.
Guy Rosen from Facebook confirmed that there was a mistake, which was immediately reported to the company's programmers. In a full statement sent to the press, the company informed that there was no evidence that the existence of the bug resulted in the recording or sending of any material somewhere.
"We recently discovered our iOS app incorrectly launched in landscape. In fixing that last week in v246 we inadvertently introduced a bug where the app partially navigates to the camera screen when a photo is tapped. We have no evidence of photos/videos uploaded due to this. Today we are sending a fix to Apple," we read in the statement.
The patch fixing the problem was in fact released on App Store yesterday (the current version is 247). If you haven't downloaded it yet, we recommend that you do so immediately.
