Borderlands 3 Reveal Confirmed?
An alleged leak has appeared on the web, which reveals a lot of information about Borderlands 3. This is coordinated with Gearbox Software publishing a new video, which appears to confirm that the new installment will be announced on March 28.
In recent weeks Borderlands fans couldn't complain about the lack of information about the next installment of the post-apocalyptic series. However, probably none of the rumors so far revealed as much information as the last leak posted on 4chan (thanks, Reddit). An anonymous user has revealed a lot of details about Borderlands 3.
Of course, any unofficial rumors can hardly be treated as reliable information, but we are unlikely to wait long for their confirmation (or denial). Gearbox Software has released a short video related to the Borderlands series, entitled Mask of Mayhem. You can see the video below and easily link it to reports from two weeks ago, when the creators posted a mysterious picture with the date of March 28. Let's add that this year's PAX East has just begun, which is an ideal opportunity to reveal Borderlands 3. Therefore, although it is by no means the final confirmation of the leak, it is worth looking at these reports in more detail. CAUTION: the following part of the text contains spoilers from the Borderlands series and possibly also Borderlands 3 . Proceed at your own risk!
According to 4chan, Borderlands 3 will take place five years after the events of the second installment. As in previous parts, we will be able to choose one of four protagonists. The first one is an android known as Flak the Beast Master, who - as you can probably guess - will use summoned creatures. Interestingly, problems with the AI of this mercenary were supposed to have caused Gearbox to give up on announcing the game last year (according to rumors from December and earlier leaks of The Triple S League channel on YouTube). In the game we will also see a gun(wo)man, which will be the female character shown on the tech demo of Unreal Engine 4 engine from 2017. The heroine is to use robots, including a mechanical bear. We can also count on another Siren after Lilith from Borderlands and Maya from Borderlands 2, but this time this character will focus more on melee combat. The list of playable heroes closes with an older gentleman shown in the new movie, who is to be a kind of Batman - in combat, he will rely on silent elimination of enemies, in which he will be helped by numerous (and expensive) gadgets.
Coming back to the plot, the leak does not reveal too much specific information, but contains some interesting hints. It seems that the story will focus around the said Sirens, women endowed with mysterious powers, of which - if we believe one of the most famous figures from the Borderlands universe - can exist no more than six in the entire universe at the same time. One of these mystics is to be the main antagonist of Borderlands 3, but she will not face the heroes alone. She will be accompanied by her twin brother, somehow also possessing the powers of a Siren, and the two of them - known as Calypso Twins - will lead the cult of Children of the Vault, with whom we will clash throughout the game.
Another curiosity is to be the place of action. Although the adventure begins on Pandora, we have to leave it quite early on board the ship Sanctuary 3, thanks to which we will also visit other planets. These include the hitherto unvisited Promethea, where the Atlas corporation (reportedly returning in Borderlands 3) has discovered alien technology. This would be compatible with the easter egg from the expansion to Battleborn, which was supposed to provide hints for the next installment of the Borderlands series (via IGN). The scenario itself is supposed to be closer to that of part one rather than two, although nothing more has been revealed about it.
As far as gameplay is concerned, the leak speaks of some changes. In Borderlands 3 all heroes will have several action skills instead of one as in previous installments. In addition, NPCs will eventually be able to resurrect the player's fallen character. Some modifications will be made to the weapon system, which we will be able to significantly customize with the use of replaceable parts. We can also count on new elements and the return of most of the previous ones.
As you can see, there are a lot of details, although, even if they are true, there are still many uncertainties. All we can do now is to wait until tomorrow and see what the team at Gearbox Software has prepared for us. For the time being, we recommend that you treat this leak as untrue until we receive an official message.
