BlizzCon Will Return; More Info Coming Soon
Blizzard has once again confirmed that it plans to return with the BlizzCon event. We'll learn more about it in early 2023.
The BlizzCon will return, most likely in 2023. This is the promise was made by Blizzard back in July, and apparently it intends to keep its word.
Mike Ybarra - president of Blizzard Entertainment - has traditionally posted a year-end update on the company's official website. The announcement summarized the team's recent activities and achievements, including its restructuring and the time spent by players in Blizzard games.
The post also included mentions of Blizzard employees, including April McKee, who since this year has been leading the team responsible for BlizzCon. Ybarra assured that McKee and subordinate staff are preparing the return of the convention, and details will be announced early next year.
Unfortunately, this is the only mention of BlizzCon, but at least it shows that Blizzard is not giving up on holding its own event. That's some consolation after 3 years without this happening.
The last time the developer held its event in 2019. After that, COVID-19 spoiled the plans of the developers, who decided to prepare a more modest, strictly online edition of Blizzcon in 2021. However, these plans too proved to be a dud - we received only a miniature BlizzConline.
In the end, Blizzard indefinitely postponed organization of the event in any form, and we didn't even get an online edition in 2022.
In the post, Ybarra also recalled Blizzard's first new brand since Overwatch, but in this case, too, he didn't reveal anything solid other than the fact that the team responsible for the project has grown twofold this year. Apparently, the work on this survival game for PC and consoles is gaining momentum.
