Black Ops 6 with Bigger Interest Than MW3 Despite Its Release on Xbox Game Pass. First Reviews From Critics are Very Positive
The first reviews of BO6 have appeared, praising the campaign above all. Meanwhile, on Steam, the game is recording amazing activity results.
The first weekend after the premiere of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is behind us, so it's a good time to check how the new game from Treyarch and Raven Software is doing. It will come as no surprise to anyone that the next installment of this popular series has attracted a large number of players, but it turns out that there are even more of them than in the case of last year's Modern Warfare 3, which wasn't hindered by the fact that you can also play it on Game Pass.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 - activity results
Unfortunately, determining the exact number of players on Steam is not possible in this case, as the game is treated as a DLC for the Call of Duty service, which displays people playing several of the latest installments of the series at once. Nevertheless, by comparing the results of the two weekends, we are able to estimate how many players came for Black Ops 6.
We could see a strong start on Friday, but it was much better on Sunday, when the Call of Duty app was launched on 306,460 accounts simultaneously. For comparison, a week earlier at the peak, this number was 80,597. So we can assume that Black Ops 6 alone attracted over 200,000 concurrent users to Steam.
Comparing this result with the first Sunday after the release of Modern Warfare 3 - 190,707 players - it is clearly visible that there is much greater interest. It should also be remembered that Black Ops 6 was released on Game Pass, where it certainly gathered a considerable number of players.
Player and critic reviews
Although the activity results are impressive, the situation is not so rosy when it comes to player ratings. Currently only 64% of the over 3,000 reviews on Steam are positive, categorizing it as "mixed." Among the reasons, players mention poorly thought-out respawn locations on maps, crashes, or problems with the Call of Duty Hub application. Things look better in the case of Metacritic, where fans gave Black Ops 6 an average rating of 7.7/10.
As for the critics, OpenCritic currenty has 10 reviews, with an average score of 85/100 (our text will probably be published tomorrow). Most of them concern the campaign, which is widely praised as one of the best in the series in years. In some texts, there was also room for multiplayer mode, in which the Omnimovement movement system stands out as a strong plus.
Some people are calling Black Ops 6 a return to form after the moderately successful Modern Warfare 3, noting that fans of the series will certainly have a great time playing it. No major flaws were pointed out, the criticism focusing mainly minor technical issues or occasionally not the best pacing of the plot.
