BioShock Movie From Netflix Will Surprise Game Fans; Director Announces New Twists
The director of the movie adaptation of Bioshock is expected to prepare something that will be a surprise even for the biggest fans of the series. Thanks to what he believes is a great script, the production will surprise everyone and without breaking canon.
The movie adaptation of Bioshock went off the radar for a long time. The production was announced in early 2022 and it was revealed then that Netflix would be responsible for the game's adaptation. The director of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Francis Lawrence, recently said more about Bioshock, of which he is also the creator. According to him, the script will surprise the fans (vide GamesRadar ).
Netflix's movie will present the story known from the first part of the game, in which the main character survives a passenger plane crash and ends up in the underwater city of Rapture. The place was supposed to be perfect - a utopia with man and science at its core. The movie adaptation is expected to include some new elements, so that even fans familiar with the story will be surprised:
"Of course, we have some new elements. To be honest, we are focusing on the first game, so we will be very faithful to it and will not break the canon in any way. But at the same time, we are preparing some new twists that will surprise fans, but fit the story. We have a really good script and I'm excited about the project."
The said "really good script" was written by Michael Green, who was previously responsible for, among other things Bladerunner 2049. Unfortunately, Francis Lawrence did not reveal anything more, but from the very beginning the director showed commitment and said that in his opinion Bioshock is one of the best games ever made.
Still no release date is known for the Bioshock movie. Certainly all work has been delayed by the actor strike, which only recently ended. The project itself shows that Netflix wants to become a home for numerous video game adaptations in the form of movies or anime, which are also announced. Some time ago, for example, we learned about work on Devil May Cry.
