Microsoft Confirms Some Bethesda Games Will be Platform Exclusive
Phil Spencer, the head of the Xbox brand, announced that the process of Microsoft's acquisition of ZeniMax Media, the owner of Bethesda Softworks among others, has been officially completed. He also emphasized that some upcoming games from the catalog of the new entities of the Redmont giant will not be available on PlayStation.
The saga of Microsoft's acquisition of ZeniMax Media, which began last September, has come to an end. Phil Spencer, the head of the Xbox franchise, has announced that the entire deal is now officially complete. Thus, Bethesda Softworks, id Software, ZeniMax Online Studios, Arkane, MachineGames, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog and Roundhouse Studios have become full members of the company's team.
Spencer stressed that the primary goal of his team is to give Microsoft's new entities the best possible conditions for further work. They will develop games as before, but as the head of the Xbox franchise believes, with additional support from the company their works will reach even more players around the world and become "the most popular games in their history".
According to Spencer, it will be important for the future to convince gamers that Xbox, PC, and the Xbox Game Pass service are the best places to experience Bethesda, id Software, or Arkane games. That's why some future titles from Microsoft's catalog will only appear on the aforementioned platforms. Which games are those? Unfortunately, so far we do not know.
We have learned that a number of other titles from studios dependent on ZeniMax Media will be released on Xbox Game Pass later this week. Their titles will be announced in the coming days.
As Spencer notes, the Xbox franchise he leads, as well as Bethesda and other newly acquired studios, share a common vision of the future of digital entertainment. Will it turn out to be bright for gamers? Let's all keep our fingers crossed for it to happen.
