F2P Battlefield May be Created, But For Now BF 2042 has Priority
Electronic Arts does not exclude the creation of a F2P Battlefield game. At this point, however, the priority is the release of Battlefield 2042, and then Battlefield Mobile.
- Electronic Arts does not rule out developing a free Battlefield game;

Electronic Arts does not rule out that in the long run there will be F2P installment of the Battlefield series. This was confirmed during the presentation of financial results for the last quarter by CEO, Andrew Wilson. However, while such an idea exists, for now the publisher has other plans for one of its biggest brands.
"When we think about all of our games and our big blockbuster franchises like Apex Legends, like FIFA, like Madden, like Battlefield, like the Sims we're always thinking about innovation and creativity at its core, how do we build that out in the modalities of play? How do we think about that across platform? How do we think about the extension of those experiences? And business model is one piece of that puzzle."
Continuing the above statement, Wilson pointed out that DICE's ultimate goal at this point is to "reinvent the Battlefield series", which he believes will be accomplished with the release of Battlefield 2042. The next step will be the release of Battlefield Mobile, which has a good chance of competing for a piece of the mobile market.
Older players probably remember that there were two free free games from the series available on the market - the highly regarded Battlefield Heroes and a bit less popular Battlefield: Play4Free. Both titles were officially killed off sometime after their launch, as Electronic Arts changed the direction of the games it was publishing and developing.
