Battlefield 2042 Will Launch Without Esports and Ranked Modes
Battlefield 2042 will not receive esports and ranked modes on launch day. The situation may change, however, if the community suggests the need to add them.
- Battlefield 2042 will launch without modes designed with esports in mind;
- The studio will consider adding them if such a need is expressed by the community.
Battlefield 2042 will lack a ranking mode and a dedicated esports option on launch day. This information was confirmed by Ripple Effect Senior Designer Justin Wiebe in an interview with the Battlefield Nation YouTube channel.
He admitted that the studio does not rule out the possibility of adding a dedicated esports mode at a later date, but at the moment there are other priorities. The studio will listen to the community and if it turns out that such an option is needed, then the chance of adding it will be high.
"This is a topic where we want to hear from our community. If ranked games and esports are important to them, and they let us know, we'll consider it and see what we can do."
Wiebe admitted later in the interview that Battlefield Portal could fill the gap, as the mode enables the community to create their own customizable gameplay experiences by modifying virtually every aspect of the game.
Battlefield 2042 will focus on online play, completely ignoring the single player mode. The game will go on sale on October 22 this year.
