Battlefield 2042 Could Switch to F2P, Claims Prominent Leaker
Reports have surfaced online that Electronic Arts is considering switching Battlefield 2042 to some form of free-to-play model as a way to save the game.
According to the latest reports Electronic Arts is very unhappy with the financial results of Battlefield 2042. The publisher is even considering switching the game to some form of F2P model. This does not mean that this will actually happen - EA is analyzing various options that could salvage BF2042 and switching to free-to-play is just one of them. More rumors on this subject are expected to appear tomorrow.
The info was revealed by Tom Henderson. He has become known as a reliable source of unofficial information about Battlefield 2042. It was thanks to him that we learned, among other things, about the problems that contributed to the game's disappointing final quality.
Instead of waiting for the devs to fix BF2042 it's better to play the free Project Reality. This tactical RTS was built on the foundations of Battlefield 2 and version 1.7.0.0 has been released not long ago.
Battlefield 2042 debuted on November 19, 2021, simultaneously to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. The game turned out to be severely underdeveloped, and fans of the series complained about the lack of some elements characteristic of the series.
Poor condition of BF2042 is best illustrated by the situation on Steam. Only 32% of all user ratings are positive, which is categorized as "mostly negative" reception. What's worse, counting only the scores from the last 30 days, only 28% of people praised the title. This means that the opinion about the project is getting worse all the time.
What's more, Battlefield 2042 is losing players fast. Yesterday, at the hottest moment of the day, the game on Steam was played by only 8 thousand people at the same time. Thursday's activity record for Battlefield V was more than twice as high. The latest installment of the series was also outpaced by Battlefield 1.
It is worth recalling that once as much as two free-to-play installments of the series were released, in the form of Battlefield Heroes and Battlefield Play4Free. However, these were productions developed specifically with this model in mind. Battlefield 2042;s switch to F2P would be the first attempt in the history of the series to save a traditional game in this manner.
