Wealth of Options Available in Battlefield Portal

Gameplay, classes, specialists, maps - these are just some of the elements that can be freely modified in Battlefield Portal.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. EA DICE discussed the details of the Battlefield Portal community platform;
  2. The developers explained the process of creating your own creations, from mode and map selection, to customizing gameplay, interface and equipment, to the advanced rules editor.

EA DICE didn't just limit itself to showing off the new mode from Battlefield 2042. The game's official website posted information about Portal.

We learneda bit about this variant of the game (or rather social platform) back in July. As a reminder: Battlefield Portal is a sort of tribute to fans of the series, which will enable them to modify the gameplay almost freely. It will enable us to mix elements from multiple games, but this brief description does not reflect the full freedom that this novelty will offer.

Classes or specialists? In BF Portal we'll check them all out.

The new entry describes the multitude of options offered by Portal, which will be made available through the browser. You won't even need your own copy of Battlefield 2042 - all that is required is an active EA account and any device with Internet access. There will be 33 maps to choose from: 13 small and medium maps and 7 large maps (the latter will only be available on PC and 9th-gen platforms).

However, first we will have to decide on one of five gameplay modes (each with its own modifiers). It's worth mentioning that none of these choices will affect the maximum number of players - all maps and modes will allow a group of up to 128 people to play (on PS5, XSX/S and PC; on older consoles the limit is 64 players).

Small Maps:

  1. Discarded: Recycling Yard
  2. Hourglass: Al Salam Park
  3. Breakaway: Platform
  4. Kaleidoscope: Data Center
  5. Manifest: Caju Operations
  6. Orbital: Crawlerway
  7. Renewal: Fields
  8. Battle of the Bulge: St. Vith
  9. Arica Harbor: Town
  10. Valparaiso: Village
  11. El Alamein: Axis Airfield
  12. Noshahr Canals: Container Area
  13. Caspian Border: Gas Station

Medium Maps:

  1. Discarded
  2. Hourglass
  3. Breakaway
  4. Kaleidoscope
  5. Manifest
  6. Orbital
  7. Renewal
  8. Battle of the Bulge
  9. Arica Harbor
  10. Valparaiso
  11. El Alamein
  12. Noshahr Canals
  13. Caspian Border

Large Maps (PC, PS5 and XSX/S only):

  1. Discarded
  2. Hourglass
  3. Breakaway
  4. Kaleidoscope
  5. Manifest
  6. Orbital
  7. Renewal

The old, the new, and the very different Battlefield

Those willing to play around with gameplay settings are not likely to complain. Players will have the ability to disable or customize numerous elements, including health regeneration, reviving fallen comrades, friendly fire, aim assist, vehicle and stationary weapon placement, damage, etc. The same applies to the interface (minimap, compass, etc.), bots and classes or new specialists.

Battlefield Portal will give players enormous freedom.

The final core element are Restrictions, the "Battlefield Eras" available on a given map. These can be changed when rotating arenas. If, for example, we choose locations from different time periods but want to stay true to historical realities, we can leave the default settings. However, nothing will prevent us from using futuristic weapons in the battle of El Alamein.

Interestingly, we will not be limited to a single era. The portal will enable us to freely mix the available weapons (a total of 75 types) for each team. The same applies to upgrades, vehicles and gadgets. So if you're looking to defend veterans of the Second World War from invaders from the future, go ahead.

Battlefield Portal for ambitious users

But this is not the end. The developers have also prepared a Rules Editor, which will give access to a huge database of scripts modifying the gameplay in the smallest detail. Ambitious players will be able to use the formula from a "simple" modification as a basis for further changes.

If we do not want to play with even the simplest options, EA DICE will offer ready-made Battlefield Portal "experiences". These will be constantly updated and changed in rotation, which should keep players busy enough. In addition, users will be able to share their creations via codes (Experience Code) that enable others to run these modifications in the game.

Of course, you will still need your own copy of Battlefield 2042. The game will debut on November 19 on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.
