Baldurs Gate 1&2 Enhanced Editions and Icewind Dale Got a Major Update

Refreshed editions of Baldurs Gate (with Siege of Dragonspear), Baldurs Gate II and Icewind Dale received a new, major update, numbered 2.6. Among other things, it improves performance on 64-bit systems, eliminates a lot of bugs and adds a number of new features.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition (including Siege of Dragonspear), Baldur's Gate 2: Enhanced Edition and Icewind Dale Enhanced Edition received a major update, numbered 2.6;
  2. Among other things, it improves performance of the games on 64-bit systems

Despite being more than two decades old, Icewind Dale, as well as the first two installments of the Baldur's Gate series, are still highly respected among gamers, especially fans of "old school" RPGs and tabletop Dungeons & Dragons. There are still people willing to either play the games for the first time or return to them. Now they have got quite a good excuse to grab refreshed versions of these positions. Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition (with Siege of Dragonspear expansion), Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition and Icewind Dale Enhanced Edition received a major update, numbered 2.6. What does it offer?

First of all, the latest patch improves the performance of all three items on modern 64-bit systems (including macOS). However, there is also some less positive news for some. 32-bit systems are no longer officially supported, so those who own them may encounter some problems. To make it easier to understand how things are now, the creators have prepared refreshed system requirements for the updated productions. You can see them on the image below.

In addition, patch 2.6 introduced some interesting novelties to the three games, which will certainly appeal to those who like to carefully create their characters. There are 11 new portraits and 7 sets of voices recorded by, among others, Mark Meer (known as the voice of Commander Shepard in the English version of Mass Effect) and Trent Oster (head of Beamdog).

Finally, the latest patch eliminates a multitude of bugs in the updated games, such as those related to obtaining achievements, traveling, spell effects, various items and sounds. And let's not forgot about a number of fixes for the multiplayer mode. All additional details can be found here.

Note: If you're playing Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition, Baldur's Gate II Enhanced Edition or Icewind Dale Enhanced Edition on PC and want to share the game with other owners of this title on Android or iOS mobile devices, you have to wait until the versions for these platforms also receive the 2.6 update.

As the devs themselves admit, the new patch does not eliminate absolutely all the bugs plaguing the remasters of classic RPGs. However, they assure that they are working on further updates. We can expect them in the near future.
