Surprising GotY Choice at BAFTA Awards; GoW and Elden Ring Defeated

BAFTA surprised everyone by picking Vampire Survivors as the best game of 2022. God of War: Ragnarok received the most statuettes.

The winners of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards in the video game category for 2022 have been announced.

The results are surprising. Indeed, the game of the year was... Vampire Survivors. This small independent game beat such giants as Elden Ring or God of War: Ragnarok. Perhaps, however, we should not be surprised by this. After all, no other game of 2022 has had such an impact on the entire industry, and it is now difficult to find a week in which at least one clone of the blockbuster has not appeared.

God of War: Ragnarok received the most, with 14 nominations, and ultimately became the most awarded game in total, as it ended the gala with five BAFTA statuettes (for Best Animation, Greatest Sound Achievement, Best Music and Best Main and Supporting Roles) and an additional EE Special Award.

It is worth recalling that last year BAFTA also surprised, recognizing the shooter Returnal as the best game of the year, which won in three categories, including the most important one - for Best Game of the Year.
