Atomic Heart DLC Announced; Adds Vast New Location
Mundfish and Focus Entertainment have announced the Annihilation Instinct DLC for Atomic Heart. The expansion will debut in early August.
Creators of Atomic Heart have revealed the release date for the first of four DLCs. Players will return to the Utopian world on August 2 - that's when the Annihilation Instinct DLC will launch, which is expected to introduce new enemies, weapons, as well as abilities for the main character's gauntlet. In addition, Mundfish, studio responsible for the title, has released a free update adding the New Game+ mode.
Atomic Heart: Annihilation Instinct - what will this DLC introduce?
Annihilation Instinct is included in the Atomic Pass, so those who bought the pass can get ready for the upcoming adventure. The plot of the DLC will be a continuation of the plot from the base game, but with new possibilities.
- Players will get access to a new location - the Mendeleev Complex and the swamps surrounding it;
- Shape-shifting enemies will appear;
- New weapons: the ranged Secateur and the Klusha for melee combat;
- New gauntlet skill: time manipulation.
Atomic Heart debuted on the market on February 21, this year. The game is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. The title can also be played as part of Game Pass.
Atomic Heart controversy
The game is developed by Russian studio Mundfish, which is based in Cyprus. The most controversial issue surrounding this developer is its unclear ties to the Kremlin and the government's influence on the creation of Atomic Heart.
What's more, the game's release itself was poorly received. Let's note that the title hit the market roughly on the first anniversary of Russia's armed invasion of Ukraine, which caused considerable opposition.
It is also worth mentioning that the composer of the soundtrack to Atomic Heart, Mick Gordon, donated his fee to the Ukrainian society to support it in dealing with the aggressor.
