Assassin's Creed Rumored to Get Smaller Stealth-focused Spin-off
The next Assassin's Creed will not be as huge as the latest installments of the series. Recent reports indicate that we are also in for more stealth.
Due to the extended development of Valhalla (next month the game will receive its third major expansion) the next main installment of the Assassin's Creed series may come out later than after the standard two years from the previous one's release. However, it looks like Ubisoft intends to make our wait for the series' big comeback a bit more pleasant. Bloomberg Agency and Eurogamer report that at the turn of 2022 and 2023 a minor installment of the series will be released.
Assassin's Creed - what do we know about the alleged spin-off?
- The project (known under the working name Rift) was to begin its life as another DLC for AC: Valhalla, but eventually turned into a standalone production. It is scheduled to be released before Assassin's Creed Infinity - either this year or early next.
- The title is supposed to be much smaller in scale than the recent big games: its world is supposed to be comparable to a single region from Assassin's Creed: Valhalla or Odyssey.
- Moreover, the gameplay is supposed to somehow return to the roots of the series and put more emphasis on the stealth aspect.
- The main character would be a character known from Valhalla, Basim, but the game would present his fate before the events from the Nordic chapter of the series. This would be consistent with the information from Eurogamer - in an interview from December José Araiza (producer of Valhalla) confirmed that we will have another opportunity to spend time with Basim.
Ubisoft representative declined to comment on "rumors or speculation" about the company's plans. She only revealed (via Bloomberg) that the publisher is preparing a number of "exciting" titles, both completely new and connected to established brands from its catalog. Will there be an alleged spin-off with Basim among them? We'll see.
