Update #2
Ubisoft has officially confirmed, that the next installment of Assassin's Creed will be Mirage, and released a concept art that goes along with rumors of setting the action in medieval Baghdad (seen in the tweet below). We can expect a full announcement of the game on September 10.
Update #1
Ubisoft has used DMCA to remove the images from Twitter and temporarily block the account that shared them. In practice, this confirms the authenticity of the artworks.
Original message
The day before yesterday we wrote about reports on Assassin's Creed: Mirage. Now the web has seen the first artwork from the project.
- The artwork was said to have leaked from the Ubisoft Store.
- It is not yet officially confirmed that the artwork is authentic, but it looks convincing.
- The image is the cover to The Forty Thieves Quest. The title suggests that it is an adventure inspired by the story of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, which is one of the most famous tales from the Book of Thousand Nights and a Night.
- Most likely, it is an additional adventure, which is a preorder bonus.
Recall that according to recent rumors Assassin's Creed: Mirage is to be a return to the roots of the series. RPG elements known from the previous several installments will be abandoned, and the whole thing will focus on the stealth aspect.
The action is to take place in Baghdad, and the main character will be Basim, known from AC Valhalla. The campaign will take place in the years 860-870, showing the turbulent period known as the Anarchy at Samarra.
The release is scheduled for spring 2023. According to some sources, the game will feature several cities, while other insiders deny this information.
Fortunately, we won't have to wait long to learn the truth. Assassin's Creed: Mirage will most likely be announced during the Ubisoft Forward show, which will take place on September 10, this year.
