Apple Comes Next, Epic Games Chief Says; 'We’ll Put Fortnite on Any Serious Store
Epic Games won in court against Google, and CEO Tim Sweeney hopes to eventually prevail in the clash with Apple as well. He also assured that Fortnite will come to every platform, on one condition.
After the de facto victory over Google in a court battle, the creators of Fortnite by no means want to rest on their laurels. Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, assured that the company is ready to make its biggest hit available "on any serious store that gives all developers an awesome deal." In other words, platforms that will forgo, among other things, the standard 30% fee.
Sweeney mentioned in his post (via X / Twitter) Steam, Microsoft's store and OneStore. Nonetheless, Epic Games' next target is probably Apple, as the CEO announced.
It should be recalled that already after the start of this legal battle Apple went along with some game developers, although the company resisted the implementation of some of the orders imposed by the ruling from September 2021. Nevertheless, so far the App Store owner has won in court against Unreal Engine developers, most recently in an appellate court in California.
However, Epic Games is is not giving up and is counting on the U.S. Supreme Court to review its dispute with Apple. For now, the company's appeal is waiting in line (via X/Twitter).
Leaving aside the fight for an "amazing deal" for all game developers, the company should care not only about returning to App Store, but also about making Fortnite available on more platforms. Admittedly, the game has had a record-breaking start of "classic" season, but a little earlier Epic Games had to lay off 16% of its employees, or 830 people. On top of that, Epic Games Store is still not profitable.
