Apex Legends Prepares Penalty System For Early Leavers
Respawn is working on a system, which will penalize players for leaving an Apex Legends match when they shouldn't. Due to a little mishap, the community could see the system in action after the latest patch.

Probably every fan of multiplayer witnessed a situation when one of the participants in the face of inevitable failure, or out of pure spite, decided to leave in the middle of a match. Such a thing is a pain when it comes to team competition. In this case, the departure of one player will spoil the fun for the others. A good example is Apex Legends, where players fight in teams of three. So far, the online battle royale shooter from Respawn Entertainment has not had a system to punish people running away from the matches. That's probably going to change soon. The studio's representatives assured on Reddit that they were working on such a system.
Anyway, you don't have to take their word for it. Along with the last patch for Apex Legends, the community had a small sample of the system of "early leaver" penalization. If any of the players decided to do it three times in a row, they had to wait 5 minutes to start searching for the next match. Respawn pointed out that the function appeared only by mistake and was already removed.
In the final version of the system, the "Cooldown" time is to be systematically increased if the player does not stop running away from matches. However, there will be some exceptions. Persons who leave the match when their team is not full or their character has bled out and died for good will not be punished.
We do not yet know when the penalty system would be implemented. What is more, we are not even sure if it will debut in Apex Legends in such a form at all. Anyway, we received confirmation that Respawn Entertainment recognizes the problem and tries to eliminate it.
Free-to-play shooter Apex Legends launched on February 4, this year on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Respawn Entertainment's game quickly gained considerable popularity. Suffice it to say that in the first month after release, the title generated $92 million in revenue, which is the best result in the history of free-to-play games. Pretty good for a production that appeared on the market practically out of nowhere.
