Another Half-Life 3 Fan Demo Available for Download
A demo of another fan project related to Half-Life 3 appeared on the web. It was created on Unreal Engine 4 by one person - Dominican Denys Almaral.
Half-Life fans have been looking forward to the third installment of this iconic FPS series for almost twelve years now. Valve doesn't seem to be particularly keen making it, however, and as a result, the continuation of Gordon Freeman's adventures has become an internet joke, a synonym for an impatiently awaited thing that never comes. But what are the fans for? They are making their own productions, such as Project Borealis, which are their own visions of what Half-Life 3 could look like. Recently, another such work has been released online. We are talking about a fan demo created by one Denys Almaral, who lives in the Dominican Republic. You can download it by clicking on the link below. It takes up 522 MB.
Consisting of one level, the demo (jokingly titled Crowbar Life 3 or The Waiting Place) runs on Unreal Engine 4. Denys Almaral created it using free assets available in the technology store. Despite the obvious limitations, the whole thing looks decently, though modestly. Unfortunately, the project will not be continued.
Why did Almaral ever decide to create and publish a Half-Life 3 demo? As he explains, it was initially only a test bed, designed as part of private testing of the Unreal Engine 4 engine. The Dominican posted a video from it on his Twitter and added a description that he was creating his own sequel to the famous series, because he is too old to wait for Valve. The entry quickly gained great popularity, which in turn convinced the author of the demo to make it available to players.
It is certainly nice to see another proof of Half-Life's undying popularity in the community. It is only a pity that we will probably never see its official continuation, although from time to time there are some sparks of hope. An example of this is the information from a year ago that Valve was looking for employees to create completely new, unannounced games.
