Amnesia: Rebirth Gets an Adventure Mode for „Chickens”
Released last year, Amnesia: Rebirth is now available in Adventure Mode. It enables us to experience the game's story stripped down of its horror elements.
- Frictional Games released Adventure Mode for Amnesia: Rebirth;
- It will present the story of Tasi Trianon to players who cannot stomach horrors or just want to play it safe;
- The new game mode is available as a free update on PC, with PS4 and PS5 to follow in a few weeks.
Today, Frictional Games released a free Adventure Mode update for its latest game, Amnesia: Rebirth. As the name suggests, it will enable us to experience the story without having to deal with the more difficult elements of the game, such as fighting monsters or the effects of darkness. The update has already arrived on PC, with PS4 and PS5 to follow in a few weeks.
Before you start bellyaching, remember that SOMA, the previous game from the Swedish studio, also received a similar mode. Safe Mode enabled us to experience Simon Jarrett's story without having to deal with enemies. The Adventure Mode added to Amnesia: Rebirth works in a similar way - monsters will only become aggressive when we make them angry. Our protagonist, Tasi Trianon, on the other hand, won't be susceptible to the harrowing sounds and images that would normally strike fear in her, increasing her darkness bar. Needless to say, a full bar meant death. So the game gets a whole lot easier in Adventure Mode... although it's not particularly hard as it is.
Why and for whom? One of the developers, Fredrik Olsson, says that adding the adventure mode to Amnesia will primarily benefit new players:
We know that there are tons of people out there who can't really stomach horror, but that would love other aspects of a game like Rebirth. Strong narrative, interesting story, cool environments and, of course, pretty unique theme. All of these things are things we hope that Adventure Mode will help introduce to new players. (...) The original mode is still there for you. We just hoped this would be a cool alternative for others."
Seems like it's a win-win situation. Especially since the new mode is completely free - just download the update. Playing in Adventure Mode should enable us to explore the Algerian desert, where Amnesia III is set, in depth, as well as to get to know some new puzzles, collect all the items and records. It will also be an interesting option for youtubers who prefer to publish cinematic walkthroughs of the game. You can also use one of these explanations, if someone accuses you of taking advantage of the convenience prepared by the developers, because you are simply afraid.
