AMD Avoiding Nvidia's RTX 3080 Launch Mistakes; Provides Retail Guidelines
The launch of new generation of AMD hardware is approaching. The manufacturer wants to implement measures to ensure the availability of RX 6000 GPUs and Ryzen 5000 CPUs.
After the problematic debut of Nvidia's GeForce RTX 3000 GPUs, many people are concerned that the situation will repeat with new AMD GPUs and CPUs. According to a note sent out to partners, published on RedGamingTech on YouTube to prevent a so-called "paper launch," AMD suggests that its partners implement measures to prevent the purchase of multiple copies for resale at an inflated price.
The recommended safeguards include:
- manual order processing,
- limit of one copy per customer,
- a reservation system,
- bot detection software.
Although most of the above solutions may not seem entirely effective, it's worth remembering that with RTX 3000, similar measures were only taken after the cards disappeared from stores. By the way, AMD itself has also had bad experiences with introducing chips that were almost impossible to buy. Unfortunately, shops are not obliged to follow AMD's suggestions, so it is hard to predict whether they will be implemented.
The RX 6000 series will launch in a week's time, on October 28. The debut of the Ryzen processors is slated for November 5 this year.
