Amazon to make Warhammer 40k movies and TV shows. Henry Cavill can start working on his project
Great news for fans of Warhammer 40,000 and Henry Cavill. Soon we will have a chance to see this world on big and small screens.
Last December Henry Cavill announced that he would create a live-action series based on Warhammer 40,000 in partnership with Amazon. At the same time Games Workshop shared news of an initial deal with Amazon to bring their story to the screens.
Now Games Workshop and Amazon have finally signed a full agreement on the production of film and TV show adaptations based on the Warhammer 40,000 universe (see Bingefire).
Back in December last year we announced Games Workshop and Amazon Studios had signed an agreement in principle to work together to bring the Warhammer 40,000 universe to screens, big and small.
Well, today we have an update, and it’s one we’ve all been longing to hear. We’ve now signed the full agreement and the next stage can begin!
Now comes the fun part: working out all the creative details with our partners and getting the first script written and into production. What Warhammer 40,000 stories should we tell first? Should we kick off with a movie or a TV show? Both?!
As you can see, the Games Workshop team is excited about this collaboration and the chance to bring their stories to a wider audience. For now, we don't know much about possible projects, just that a team of screenwriters is being assembled, with Henry Cavill expected to be at the helm of the series.
In their announcement, the creators warned us that the production of the films and TV shows is a mammoth undertaking that could take at least 2-3 years, so we shouldn't expect Warhammer on screens too soon.
