IN A NUTSHELL
  1. The second season of Altered Carbon has debuted on Netflix.
  2. So far it has been collecting positive opinions in the industry media.

In 2018, the first season of the science-fiction series Altered Carbon debuted on Netflix. Although it has aroused quite mixed feelings in many viewers, due to, among other things, too much deviation from the book original by Richard Morgan, it has also gained a certain number of fans. They had to wait almost two years for a sequel, but here it is in the end. The popular streaming platform has released eight new episodes of the production.

Anthony Mackie plays the lead role in Altered Carbon S2.

The action of the second season of Altered Carbon starts several decades after the events known from season 1. Takeshi Kovacs, a former soldier of an elite interstellar unit, takes on a new shell and returns to his home planet, the Harlan's World. His goal is simple - to find Quellcrist Falconer, his old flame and the leader of a rebellion against the UN. However, the hero's complicated past will make this difficult. Fortunately, he will meet both new and old allies on his way. The last group includes the artificial intelligence Poe, for example.

As Kovacs has a new shell in the second season, there has been a small cast reshuffle for the actor playing the main character. Joel Kinnaman has been replaced in the role by Anthony Mackie, known as Falcon from Marvel's Cinematic Universe. Apart from him, the new episodes of Altered Carbon feature Simone Missick, James Saito, Lela Loren, Dina Shihabi, Torben Liebrecht, Chris Conner and Renée Elise.

In the second season of Altered Carbon, we will once again se the AI called Poe.

In the case of the second season of Altered Carbon the showrunner has also changed. Currently, it is Alison Schapker, who has produced such movies as Lost, Fringe or Alias. It seems that it turned out to be a good thing for the series because so far its new season is gathering better opinions in the industry media than the previous one. On Rotten Tomatoes, 83% of the show's twelve reviews are positive, with an average rating of 7.57/10. The critics praise primarily the fact that in the second season, the creators managed to make their characters more nuanced, thus making them more interesting. Also praised are the actors, including Anthony Mackie, who rose up to the challenge, and the directors.

However, there were some voices of dissatisfaction. One of the disappointed reviewers pointed out, for example, that if someone was expecting a return to the atmosphere of the noir crime stories known from the previous Altered Carbon, they might be a bit disappointed with the new episodes.

We would like to remind that the live-action series is not the only attraction that Netflix has in store for the fans of Richard Morgan's novel series. An animation set in the Altered Carbon universe is also in preparation.
