Age of Empires 2's New DLC Accompanies Update That Will Overhaul One of the Nations
With the debut of The Mountain Royals expansion, a major update is coming to Age of Empires 2 that will rebuild the Persian Empire.
In just two days, i.e. on October 31, we will witness the debut of another paid expansion for Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, titled The Mountain Royals, which will introduce to the game two new civilizations (Armenians and Georgians), as well as three new campaigns. As it turns out, on the same day the game will receive a major update that will rebuild the Persian Empire.
Restore the empire's identity
As the developers explain, with the influx of new civilizations into the game, the proud Persians in AoE II: Defiinitive Edition have lost their distinctive qualities. For this reason, in the upcoming update they want to restore this Middle Eastern power's uniqueness, making it a "true cavalry civilization."
- The Persians will receive a new unique unit: Savars. This is a heavy cavalry unit that will prove particularly effective against enemy gunners. In appearance, it will resemble the Paladins, but will perform worse than them in direct clashes with infantry and enemy cavalry.
- Reinforcements will be made to the battle elephants, which will now be much faster and more effective in destroying buildings and fortifications. In addition, the cost of upgrading this unit to elite rank will be reduced.
- In addition, Persia will gain access to Parthian tactics already during the Age of Castles. This, combined with the new passive skill of the civilization, providing additional gold for each defeated military unit, is expected to open up new strategic options for the superpower, which should gain strength in the early stages of the game.
These are just some of the changes expected to hit Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition in the days to come. For details, I refer you to the post on the game's official website, available here.
